Riding Into What’s Next

On Monday, April 13th, we rode out to 5500 Florida Blvd, and for me, that stop meant a little more than usual.
That building is now the home of QuickFlip Media, along with WHYR 96.9 FM, which recently relocated from Main Street.
QuickFlip Media is built around one idea, turning real moments into usable content. It comes from my background in journalism, where speed and clarity matter, and it’s shaped how we approach video, photo, and digital strategy for businesses here in Baton Rouge.
This new studio is a big step forward. It gives us space to build, to collaborate, and to create in a way we haven’t been able to before. It feels like one of those moments where things are starting to level up.
WHYR’s move was driven by financial realities, but it’s turning out to be a strong one. The layout works better for the station, and the large parking lot opens up real opportunities for events and gatherings.
We’re already putting that into motion.
WHYR has voted to host an open house on Saturday, May 23rd, which will also serve as the first open house for QuickFlip Media. We’re planning to have music, food, and a chance to explore the space. More details are coming soon, but it’s definitely something to look forward to.
Why Florida Blvd Matters Right Now
Part of the reason for the ride was also to take a closer look at what’s happening along Florida Boulevard.
A major safety project recently broke ground along the corridor, aiming to address long-standing concerns about one of the most dangerous roads in the country.

This project includes improvements designed to make the road safer for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians, including the addition of a multi-use path. It’s part of a broader effort to rethink how people move through that corridor.
That progress is one of the reasons I felt confident placing my business there. There’s real investment happening, and you can feel the shift. It’s not just about what Florida Blvd has been, it’s about what it’s becoming.
What’s Coming Up

We’ve got a strong lineup of rides and events ahead, and this is a good stretch to plug in and be part of what’s happening.
Pedaling for Peace is this Friday, April 16th. We’ll meet at the Shoppers Value parking lot at 6 p.m. This ride always carries meaning, bringing people together around community, safety, and connection.

Refresh Rouge – Downtown Cleanup
On Saturday, April 18th, there’s an opportunity to give back to a space we’ve ridden through many times.
Refresh Rouge: Downtown Beautification Day is part of Love the Boot Week, a statewide effort led by Keep Louisiana Beautiful. Volunteers will help with litter pickup and general cleanup throughout the Downtown Development District.
We’ve visited the DDD on past rides, so this is a chance to take care of a space we regularly enjoy.
Details:Saturday, April 188:30 to 11 a.m.Meetup at 247 Florida Street
All supplies are provided. RSVP is requested but not required.

Donation Ride to Front Yard Bikes
On Monday, April 20th, we’ll ride to the Terrace Street location of Front Yard Bikes.
At this stop, Tina Ufford will present a check on behalf of Bike Baton Rouge as the organization wraps up its work. We’ll also learn more about what Front Yard Bikes is doing and the impact they continue to have in the community.
Earth Day at Howell Park
Saturday, April 25th brings one of my favorite events of the year, Earth Day at Howell Park.
This is also where the Pedaling for Peace ride is headed, so you’ll get a preview if you’re riding Friday.
If you’ve never been to Howell Park, this is a great reason to go. It’s one of the most unique spaces in Baton Rouge, with so much happening, including the Baton Roots Farm, where the Earth Day event will be held.
I’ll be there, and I highly recommend checking it out.
The Buddy Ride
On Saturday, May 2nd, the community will gather for the 8th Annual Buddy Ride, honoring Councilman Buddy Amoroso, who was killed while riding his bike.
It’s a meaningful ride that brings together cyclists from across the area to remember and to advocate for safer streets.

Louisiana Wild Society Ride
On Monday, May 4th, our regular ride will be a little different.
We’ll head to the Main Branch Library on Goodwood to meet up with the Louisiana Wild Society. They’ve recently added a native plant garden there, and we’ll learn more about the role native plants play in supporting the local ecosystem.
It’s a great way to connect what we do on the bike with the larger landscape around us.
Keep Showing Up
There’s a lot happening right now, new spaces, new projects, and new energy across the city.
None of it works without people showing up.
Every ride, every cleanup, every event adds something. And when you step back, you can start to see how it all connects.
We’ll see you out there.
